Traice ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Traice mobile application (the "Service"), a community-powered tool designed to help communities share information about ICE activity in Minnesota. We are deeply committed to protecting your privacy and have designed our Service with privacy as a core principle.

Our Privacy Commitment: We collect the minimum data necessary to provide the Service. We do not track your location history, sell your data, or share your information for advertising purposes.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

  • Email Address: Used solely for account registration and verification
  • Sighting Reports: When you submit a sighting, we collect the location and details you provide at that moment

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Device Identifier: A unique token for push notifications
  • Device Type and OS Version: For app compatibility purposes

2.3 Location Data

Important: We handle location data differently than most apps:

  • Location is collected only when you actively submit a sighting report
  • We do not track your location in the background
  • We do not store your location history
  • Location data is used in real-time for proximity alerts and is not associated with your user profile

2.4 Photos

If you attach photos to sighting reports:

  • All EXIF metadata (including GPS coordinates, timestamps, device info) is automatically stripped before upload
  • Photos are deleted when the associated sighting is purged

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information solely for:

  • Account Management: Email verification during registration
  • Sighting Reports: Processing and displaying sighting information you submit
  • Proximity Alerts: Sending push notifications about nearby sightings (within 3 miles)
  • Service Operation: Maintaining and improving the Service

We do not use your information for:

  • Advertising or marketing
  • Profiling or behavioral tracking
  • Sale to third parties

4. How We Share Your Information

7. Data Security

We implement strong security measures:

  • Encryption in Transit: All data transmitted using TLS 1.3
  • Encryption at Rest: Stored data is encrypted
  • Token Security: JWT authentication with 15-minute expiration
  • Photo Privacy: EXIF/location data stripped before upload
  • Minimal Data: We collect only what's necessary

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. We will notify you of material changes through the app or by email. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
